Recently, two Sharon Towers staff members received the Hero Award from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Long-term Care Employee Recognition program. The Metrolina Community Advisory Council (CAC) sponsors the program. Honorees included Director of Talent Development & Retention Chanel Jenkins and Environmental Services Supervisor Allison Ells.
According to Hillary Kaylor, Regional Ombudsman for Mecklenburg Nursing Homes, the award began two years ago to highlight the work of direct care staff during COVID. Initially, families of resident and staff of Charlotte area nursing homes nominated “heroes” who performed exemplary service. Then, the CAC volunteer committee reduced the list to the 6 chosen recipients.
Hero Award Recipients Chanel Jenkins and Allison Ells
In addition to being the director of talent development and recognition, Chanel is also Sharon Towers’ infection control nurse. Consequently, she continues to play a key role in ensuring the safety of residents. Additionally, she has deftly managed COVID-19 regulations, PPE needs, coordination of testing, visitation, screening and vaccination of residents.
Allison, who has maintained perfect work attendance throughout the pandemic, has risen to the occasion during the pandemic as well. For example, she has worked extra shifts, delivered meal and has been a compassionate, steady presence for residents and families. Always showing respect to the housekeeping team and residents, she exemplifies the traits of a hero.
Therefore, we congratulate Chanel and Allison on this honor. They were already heroes to us. So, it’s only fitting that they are recognized for their commitment to excellence.
