“A Citrus Taste,” a collection of World War II poetry by Sharon Towers resident Genevieve C. Kissack, has been published and is available for order online. Mrs. Kissack is a native of Paris and lived through the Nazi occupation of the city as a teenager.
Mrs. Kissack has had many poems published, including in numerous copies of The Lyricist. The title poem, “A Citrus Taste,” was awarded a prize from the North Carolina Poetry Society in the early 2000s. A resident of Charlotte since 1959, she came to Sharon Towers in February 2022.
Mrs. Kissack has worked with numerous poetry instructors in Charlotte, including Diana Pinckney and Irene Honeycutt, and until recently was active in a local poetry writing group. A group of her friends, led by Doris Browder of Rock Hill, worked together to produce “A Citrus Taste,” with Mrs. Kissack’s poems on life in France in the 1940s, particularly during and after the war.
Copies of the book are $10 and are available for order through lulu.com. For signed copies, contact Kathleen Purvis.
