Sharon Towers’ Director of Vitality and Well-Being Jessica Bourque was nominated for the 2022 Charlotte ATHENA Leadership Award for Service at a luncheon March 8 in uptown Charlotte. The nomination recognizes an individual who demonstrates excellence and initiative in their profession; improves the quality of life in their community, and helps others, particularly women, reach their full leadership potential.
In a typical month, the Vitality and Well-Being Team is involved with more than 1,000 programs and activities at Sharon Towers, from fitness classes to Bible study to music therapy. During COVID-19, the team adjusted programming to virtual sessions as needed. As the weather warms, plans include such outdoor activities as concerts, movies and fitness offerings.
“Jessica is passionate about changing the way we age and setting a new standard for excellence for the active aging industry,” says Sharon Towers’ Vice President of Resident Services Milton McGowian, who nominated Jessica for the award. “She is organized, creative, compassionate, hard-working and fun.”
Jessica began work as an activities therapist at Sharon Towers 22 years ago. Her mission then and now remains the same. “Making a difference in the lives of the residents fills my soul,” she says.
ATHENA International is a nonprofit that supports, develops and honors women leaders. Since 1982, more than 7,000 leaders in the Charlotte area have received an ATHENA Leadership award in one of three divisions – Service, Corporate and Young Professional. Nominations come from colleagues who see and appreciate their work each day.
